    DPD test Kit

This test only reads to 3ppm of FC. If I want to test for higher levels of FC, can I simply add the water to a larger container 1:1 from the test tube and just add 3PPM each time until the color drops off? Thanks in advance.

What is a safe amount of chlorine to swim in after shocking?

I agree... as long as your pool is clean and clear, the chlorine at shock level will not hurt you or the kids! The Free chlorine will dissipate away pretty quickly when the sun is baring down and you are swimming in the pool.

What is a safe amount of chlorine to swim in after shocking?

3 - 5PPM is the standard. But it depends on how high your CYA is. You should check out the pool school here. There is a chart for FC levels based on CYA levels. I run about 8 - 12PPM as a standard in my pool. But that is with a CYA level off 100PPM.

Terry, Thanks, I am going to pass the info along. They are good friends of ours and I hope I didn't lead them down the wrong path. I knew what had to be done. But I know they are somewhat confused right now. I was just hoping I could help. Thanks for the reply. I am going to pass along the...

Neighbor just got a new pool..

I have been using the BBB method for approximately two seasons and pretty much have a good idea of what needs to be done. My neigbors just got a new pool. It has a SWG but on the advise from the "pool professionals" at the pool store they were advised to add stain remover and metal remover (hard...

I wonder what the neighbours think...

You're pouring what, BLEACH, into that pool??? For me, I'm in denial, I hide the bottles of bleach in the barn and pour it into a messuring pitcher and then take that out to the pool so my neighbors will not notice what I am pouring in...:) Like an Alchaholic in denial, a pool-aholic:)

    Cloudy Water???

Please post your test results if you can. FC: TC: CYA: PH: You might need to shock again. Chlorine is your best friend when it comes to clearing the pool! Cloudiness could indicate that algae is trying to return or not all completely gone yet.

Frustrated..2 weeks into BBB and have to shock

I had the same issues down here in NC when the pollen was rampant about 4 weeks ago. But now things are crystal clear. I've gotten my BBB method down to a science. 1 box of Borax made my PH 7.4, I shocked the pool initially w/ 5 182oz bottles of 6% bleach and held it there for 3 days with a half...

Would this detract the sale of my home?

So, we have a contract on the house!!! It is my understanding from the Realtor that the new buyers love the pool. I don't want to jinx myself so that's all I will say for now! I will update everyone once we close. If the new owner is not aware of this site, the pool school, or the BBB method, at...

Would this detract the sale of my home?

Yep, I sit under one and the wife sits under the other and watch the kids swim. They will stay in until there hands and feet wrinkle up. I'm the "life gaurd" and sit up by the steps. The wife is the snack queen and she knows how to get the kids out of the pool!
