2nd Time Pool Owner

So I am on day 4 of the SLAM. Water is crystal clear (maybe the clearest it's been since I moved here). Chlorine dropped a little overnight so have not passed OCLT yet. Chloramines are 0.5, and I still see some green when I brush in certain areas of the pool, so I expect at least one more day. I know it varies, but what is a "normal" duration for a SLAM ?

Also, I got my new IC40 salt cell yesterday and have wired in the Power Center (not terminated yet). I will put some questions about that in the SWG forum.

Wife is excited because the pool looks so good. Last year we had a neighborhood person coming weekly and I didn't like her - wouldn't tell me what she added to the pool and by her shocking every week it kept me from understanding my SWG wasn't keeping up.

Also, I am revising down my pool volume based on how the FC is reacting to chlorine adds. Right now I am estimating more like 22k gal.

Am on day 6 of the SLAM. Water is crystal clear. CCs test at 0.5 one time and 1.0 the next so still there. I still see some greenish stuff when I brush in certain areas, so I'm still slamming. Gone through 14 gal of chlorine so far and need to go get more today.

I am working with pool math to adjust the pool volume, but I am seeing some inconsistency. I started at 32k gallons but every time I add and test 30 min later it overshoots the FC levels so I have dialed back volume to 21k gallons. Will these readings have any more error in them at SLAM levels ?

I would not make that big of an adjustment...you can use "Effects of Adding" in reverse to get close. Take the last test before chlorine and after 30 minutes, say the addition was for an INCREASE of 10 FC and you added X ounces. Enter the X ounces, then modify the pool volume until it says it will increase your FC by 10. Use that pool volume.

So today, I have added a total of 260oz of liquid chlorine. This seems like a lot to add in one day. It's a hot sunny day in Dallas - does that play a part ? Am I pouring it in too fast or in the wrong place ? I am pouring it in in front of a skimmer in the shallow end of the pool. Just checking if something is not wrong...

Water is still crystal clear and the last time out I did not see any debris when I brushed. Earlier today I only saw it in specific areas. Nothing there now. And I have been running the robot all day.

Thanks

So maybe I am at the end of my SLAM. Tested at 20 after sunset. Still at 20 this morning were 0.0 - 0.5. The color was very faint after adding the reagant for CC's (almost no perceptible color change) and it was 100% clear after one drop of R-0871. Just to be sure I am going to keep FC at SLAM through today and do one more OCLT tomorrow AM.

One other question- I have three water features, all of which have dedicated pumps and returns. How often should I run these ? Since we have been here (~4 years) I have run all three about 10 min every Sunday. Is that enough ? Also, I just repaired one of them - the hub to the pressure side was leaking so I fixed it last night. I have algae in the pump inlet housing. What's best way to remove ?

Nice !!!

I always vote for a way easier continuation verses possibly starting over in a few weeks.

Water goes stagnant pretty quickly. Flushing the lines for a few minutes daily is preferred, twice a day is best.

Dilute bleach 10:1 like you were scrubbing inside the house and make believe you are scrubbing inside the house. Then rinse it well.

Thanks. That's good advice. I will set the schedule accordingly. What about cleaning the pump baskets ? Can they soak or just scrub them too ?
