It seemed like a good idea, when I scheduled it last week. We had a 3-day string of high temperatures around 80F, a veritable heat wave for early May around here, and the top of the cover was actually dry for a change. So I took the opportunity to remove the cover, reconnect the salt cell and other plumbing, and prep for a fill.

Now looking at the forecast, it's 49F - 75F and rain most of the next ten days... so probably no swimming here! At least I got the cover off before it filled back up with water. :D

I usually take my pool level down about 14 inches for winter, just below the lights and skimmer, since things remain frozen here most of the winter most years. We had a long string of 0F - 20F nights and days this year, so I'm glad I wasn't having to worry about what that was doing to the delicate plastic bits.

My water temp got up to 70* with the warm weather we had which is still too cold to swim and I was hoping it would keep climbing. But alas, this rainy and cool streak is killing my dreams of swimming this month. Oh well, maybe in June.

Welcome back.
Thanks! Long winter, lots of wood burned. Now time for a change of gear.

I got a sign it was time to open weeks ago.
Nice! The ski resort behind my house was still open a month ago… lol.

Hey, quick question: The cast aluminum sockets into which my railing is set seem to be reacting with the salt water in the pool. Both drain holes in each socket were clogged with some sort of growth, but were easily drilled clean. I am inclined to smear something onto the railing end before inserting, but grease would only make it more prone to slipping and turning. What do you guys do?

The Grey toothpaste ? That's what mine always had. Years 2+ I gorilla taped almumim flashing over the openings to keep most of the winter rain / melting snow out. I just cut a piece off an existing roll i had laying around and it made for a healthy overlap wide.
