A good aftermarket cartridge replacement?

Hello everyone! I am about to “open” officially this week and am shopping on Amazon for a new cartridge for my Hayward X-Stream 150 sq ft filter. Should I stick with the OEM Hayward brand ($101.59 before tax on Amazon) or buy one of the aftermarket brands that have excellent reviews and are way less than the OEM one? The ones I am looking at are $70 and $63 and have great reviews.

The actual “model number” or whatever it’s called of my cartridge is CC1500RE. If you’ve used an aftermarket cartridge before, is there a particular brand you recommend? There are a few options on Amazon and I don’t know where to start but I need to act quick. Thanks in advance!

They only have to last 2/3 as long to break even and if you open up the box and think they are particularly chintzy, return them and go with the better ones. Or they seem similar enough and are worth the gamble.

Its WAY FREAKING MORE of a gamble for me. 😭😭😭

Lord…. I am so glad my cartridge replacements cost at least $800 less than that one — both OEM and the most mentioned aftermarket ones on TFP I saw during my search engine research lol. The aftermarket ones in those brands cost more than the OEM! I rolled the dice on the first one since it had the best reviews and 30 day money back guarantee. The only bad thing I saw in a few reviews was it may need cleaning more than the OEM, but I don’t have a heavy bather load and skimmer socks help me tremendously. It’ll be here tomorrow. Fingers crossed! 🤞🏼🤞🏼

Be conscious when off forum that the reviewers have likely added all kinds of mystery potions that would make you cringe. Or twice as cringe if you knew what they were. :ROFLMAO:
 
Yeah. Anyway, I'd disregard that they need to be cleaned more often. Your yard determines that. It could be that the reviewer was comparing the spring crud load to last summer.

Check it out when it comes and you'll know if if you dont think it'll last.

I agree. And if it does its job all summer, I’ll attempt to get another year out of it after proper cleaning before closing. If not, at that price point — I really wouldn’t be mad if it needed replaced more frequently. My OEM one did fantastic and barely needed cleaned (even though I’d do it anyways). I gotta wait to share that story since I’m running errands, but it’s worth the wait and definitely a doozy!
