I disconnected my wires to my pool light a couple of years ago and filled the hole with expoxy. It is now leaking into my yard behind the junction box. My question is to permanently seal it, should I dig a hole behind the juction box to cap it or is the leak usally because the pipe is shattered or something. I'm tyring not to have to get in the freezing water, but it would seem like placing a rubber plug would work? I'm not sure the best to fix it other than calling somone to come out to fix it. thanks

The water in the line is at the same height as the pool level. If it is leaking water into the yard, the leak point has to be below the level of the pool water. Capping the line at the junction box will not stop the leak.

If by "filled the hole with epoxy" did you mean the hole in the pool or the hole in the junction box?

If the conduit behind the light was epoxied, this won't work...but if the conduit behind the light has not been filled with epoxy, you might be able to plug the conduit with an expandible rubber plug, or PVC plug.

Barring those solutions, digging up the line, finding the break and fixing it is the only other solution I can think of...

When I pulled the wires from the light, I put expoxy in the hole behind the light, not sure how good of a job I did. So, there is an exposed open pipe beneath the juction box in the ground that can be capped?

You might check to see if the epoxy has held. If there is water in the line, epoxy likely failed. If you can clean the epoxy out of the hole, you can likely use a plug to stop the water from getting in the line.

IF the water is coming from the line under the junction box (and not some other source), the conduit is likely broken somewhere. You can cap it, but you will likely need to drain the pool a bit, as water will be coming out the line when you dig and expose it.

I'm confused, is this correct, An open PVC pipe? Water was coming out when the pool was running. I capped it, but why would there be an open PVC pipe?

Maybe an overflow. Do you have an overflow pipe in that pool or the skimmer? Look all around the pool and inside skimmers for hole in the side. Do you have an autofill? Check there too.

If overflow, I wouldn’t cap.

If you are talking about the overflow hole in my original pic? I don't believe it is from that, because my pool loses water below that overflow drain.

Post some pictures of your pad.

Check for any other overflow. Do you have an autofill? Check there.

You could also hold a hose up to the pipe and see if you can see/feel where it comes out.
