My Clean & Clear's core broke. The tower piece, that has all the holes in it, broke away from the base that tower snaps into. I can't get the base piece out from the bottom of my filter. It's in there really tight. I've pulled with all my might and it won't budge. Is there a trick to pulling it out? If I can't get it out I'm thinking I'll need to break it into a few pieces to get it out. Is this safe or common to have to break it? If I need to break it I'd appreciate any advice on what kind of tools and methods might work best. I don't want to break something else in the process. Thanks!

Below is the picture of the center core. Are you saying the the bottom, flat, black part, that looks like an LP record has separated from the core and is still stuck in the filter housing?

Can you post a picture of the core that you removed and the remaining piece in the filter housing?

It is typical to "rock" the center core back and forth, while pulling vertically to remove the core.

PoolStored is correct. It generally comes out without much argument. In the case where the base gets jammed with sand, the core can detached from the base and the tabs snap off.

The base is not glued in there. You may just have to negotiate it or try spraying water around the perimeter to dislodge whatever has acted as a shim to hold it down. In our area, it's always gritty sand.

I got the base of the core out. I ended up using the hooked end of a 3' crowbar. I got it under the base and tapped it upwards from beneath in several locations and it came out in under 30 seconds. As you can see there is sand on the sides of the base piece which probably had it wedged in there. Thank you both for the help.

Saw the pictures, not the text. First thing I thought was get two paint can openers and get them under the black plastic on the inside of the base and use the too lever/rock to get it out.

Congrats!
