Weird issue. My FC is not going down. I've been keeping FC around 8 or 9 since I did a SLAM a few weeks back. Pool looks great. I'm not losing hardly any FC in a 24 hour period. The weather has been cloudy here and there, high 70's to low 80's. Sun hits pool all day but pool has been covered for the most part with a solar cover. Nobody's been in it in over a week until yesterday when I got in. A few times testing showed no loss in a 24 hour period. A few others showed only a .5-1ppm loss in 24 hours. I did have to buy new reagents from pool store. They are stamped as expiring next year so I don't think that's it. Maybe nothing is wrong but I've never had this happen before. Even yesterday after I was in it, testing showed no loss from previous 24 hour test. I tested about 4 hours after swimming.

UV demand falls off a cliff for us up north right about now. (Providing you're using the fas/dpd test).

Folks dont want to keep their pools open late enough for cool water because they think they'll be frequently maintaining it like they did in the summer, but as you see, it requires a lot less attention to keep the FC above minimum. If you go long enough, the dose that lasted days turns into weeks.

Just doubled checked the reagents. The R-0871 expired in July, which is about when i bought it at a local pool store. I misread as the lot# is marked 2025. Go figure. The powder expires next year August. Could the expired R-0871 cause this? My test kit is always kept in the house.

Case and point why you want to buy from TFtestkits which are guaranteed fresh. Amazon is a crud shoot too. :)

Probably not seeing how the kit is stored properly, but still always possible.

Newdude has it right. On mine, here in Minn., the FC was at 10 when I started. I then took 2 1/2 days earlier this week (there were other life issues) to completely replumb my pool pad equipment. No attention to the chemistry at that period. Once I verified there were no leaks, I was prepared to dump in lots of Cl. Nope, testing came back as 8.

I do buy from tftestkits. I needed the reagents ASAP and couldn't wait almost a week. I honestly don't see the issue as the reagents are stamped with expiration date. I bought from local pool store, not amazon. Amazon was pricey! It was my fault on misreading the R-0871 expiration.

It is what it is sometimes. :) If it was me, I'd dose more than I knew I needed just to be on the safe side while I waited. You're safe up to slam for your CYA.

I was just listing the 2 most common ways folks end up with old supplies.

Personally I don't put too much stock in them when the kit is stored properly. Taylor had to pick something just like the dairy industry, but just like milk, they can go way beyond their date under the right circumstances. Obviously, a year or more latet you're pushing it, but in the short term they should be fine past the date.

Can you confirm with the OTO test that there's a moderate dose of chlorine in there ?

I'm down to 20% on my SWG from the 60% needed in the peak season. That'll be too much soon, if it isn't already because I haven't tested in a several days knowing it was 14 last time with little loss.

My old place with tons of shade would be single digit %s by now but I have full sun so I still see some demand.

I just looked at my pool logs through this forum for the first time. Always use pool math app on my phone. Whats up with the crazy decimal where it shows that bleach was added?. The numbers before the decimal are right, but I've no idea how all those numbers after decimal showed up.🤔🤔
