Need help getting pool clear

Volume is important. Make the addition as you have calculated, pump running. Test 30 minutes later.

Go back to pool math, enter your starting and ending FC and adjust the pool volume until you get the same 591 ounce addition. That will be close to your actual pool volume.
Just finished with the 30 minute test and I came up with 20,550. That’s a lot less than I figured at 28,000 but the fc went up to 30 at the 30min mark. There was no cc at that time. Maybe the pool volume was off all along. It had already been in the pool store’s computer from the previous owner and we never thought to question it.

Pool store actually had 29,200

I’ve been SLAMing along with backwashing, sweeping the floors and walls. It is getting to where I can almost see the bottom of the shallow end however when I went up to do the test tonight I see I am still fighting frogs. I am keeping the fc at 24. I don’t know how they ran stand it in there with it being that high. I only saw 1 but there may have been others (likely).
I test every 2 hours when I’m home all day and 4-5 times a day when I am in & out during the day.
Any suggestions on frogs 🐸 or just keep SLAMing.
Hopefully we can get in pool soon
Thanks

Do I lower fc to 16 now? And in a few days test cya again to see if I lower the fc again or leave at 24, 16? I’m assuming I’ll eventually too let the fc go to the 4-7 once water is clear and passes the other tests.

To confirm, you could not see the dot at 30 but could see it at 40. Then your CYA is 40. SLAM FC level is 16ppm

Yes, cya has came down to where I see dot at 40. In the beginning I saw it around 54 and we did slam as 60. So I was checking on whether I start lowering the fc target as the cya comes down.
Do I need to continue to check cya often to lower the slam fc target or just leave it where I started until the water is clear.
Should I add the nst prime tablets back to the skimmer now?
Thanks

CYA can only be removed by draining water. So initially your test may have been in error. - unless you drained and refilled water. Maintain the CYA 40 if that is where you are today. No need to test CYA unless you have drained water.
If you have autofill and autodrain on your pool, it can be deceiving in that water will drain out if a lot of rain and be replaced with non-CYA water.

Focus on the SLAM with FC level of 16ppm. You should use liquid chlorine for a SLAM
Do NOT add chlorine pucks to a skimmer. it is best to put them in a floater in the pool. Depending on the type of pucks you will be adding CYA or Calcium to your pool. Be aware of that.

I did have a hard time with the dot for the cya when I started. I have had other people looking with me when I test so I have other eyes besides mine to confirm.
The tablets we have are extended release non-stabilized but they haven’t been in the pool since we started the SLAM, I just didn’t know if I needed to add them yet.

Make your 50/50 solution using your pool water and the R-0013 reagent. Shake for 30 secs then let it sit, then a quick shake.

Rather than looking down the tube at the black dot and pouring your mixed solution. I suggest you squirt enough in your tube to a specific mark - such a 100. Then look in the tube for the black dot. If you see it, then squirt in more mixture to the 90 mark, then look in the tube for the black dot. Continue this for each decade graduation (i.e. 80, 70, etc.)

On the one you cannot see the dot then the previous mark is your CYA level. So if you saw the black dot at 50 but not at the 40 mark then your CYA is 50. This way you are never putting the solution between 2 graduation marks. You are only looking at the bottom for the black dot at defined graduations.

This way you are not staring at the black dot constantly and seeing it regardless. I remember my teacher in grade school had us stare at a black dot for 60 secs and then look up and we saw that black dot everywhere we looked - it’s the same effect if you stare down that tube constantly. Only doing a quick look at each graduation mark is easier on the eyes.

Most likely have calcium in it. Increasing calcium too high can be an issue as well and can only remove by draining. Be careful on use of any puck - stabilized or non-stabilized.

Thanks for the info. I did not put the tablets in yet so I’ll hold off.
Right now the shallow end is not clear but we can see the bottom over to the ramp and around the sides /down on the deep end. The deep end is staying a bluish green shade and maybe a bit cloudy - not sure. I have not added any liquid chlorine today since I was going to try to lower the new fc to 16 rather than 24 since the cya is now lower.
IF the pool ever gets clear we are wanting to check into a salt water system.
