NST tablets

I currently use cal hypo as main sanitizer...please no judgement, my calcium levels arent too bad.

I'm going on vacation and was thinking about using Calhypo NST tablets. They are non stabilized, and I keep my cya at 40.. does anyone know how to use them if u have cya in pool? It seems like directions state they keep pool at 1-4 ppm which isn't enough with 40 cya.. how else could I get chlorine in my pool if I won't be around for a week, any suggestions?

Yes they are, chlorine is a gas and for pools it's stabilized with water, calcium or CYA.

It seems like directions state they keep pool at 1-4 ppm

Standard issue industry recs. I wanna know how you can run a 1 when you might lose 4 ppm a day. Be out there every 30 mins, just in case ?


It's no wonder there are so many swamps out there. The only wonder is the exact % of the industry's ignorance / terrible advice that makes big sales.

I have zero experience with tabs of any kind but it's been said many times that cal-hypo tabs are quick to dissolve.

Can you cover the pool with a tarp or your winter cover ? That'll help save a bunch of UV loss.

Bring it to SLAM right before you leave and use Trichlor tabs which will likely take longer to dissolve. Between the tabs, staring at SLAM and the tarp, it should be fine when you get back.

Each 8 oz tab will raise the CYA by 3. 3 of them will add about 14 FC and your CYA can take the minor boost.

That sounds good, what do u think would happen if I slam them add trichlor tab without tarp?

You'd have more UV loss.

It very well may last the week, or at least last long enough that you don't return to a Shrek like swamp.

Got any neighbors/friends who could stop by mid trip for a liquid chlorine boost ? You could FaceTime them and walk them through the FC test. Or just reload the tab floater if it's empty.

Oooooooooh. THANKS for bringing it up. You need a new floater specifically for the trichlor. The two go boom, even with only traces of one left in the old container. Never ever mix forms of chlorine.
