Good Morning fine folks...

My wife and I just purchased a new Spa (Master Spa Twilight 8.25). In an attempt to keep this brief, the spa comes with an Ozone, which I have read that Ozone breaks down chlorine. I am struggling keep chlorine in the tub, as the ozone always breaks it down to .5 or less. So there are times where the tub is running down to 0 which has caused slightly cloudy water at times. I am able to correct it, but I never realized how high maintenance a tub could be? I feel if I don't put chlorine into the spa at minimum twice a day, I run the risk of running the chlorine to 0. So with that back story, I started to explore salt cells as we have a salt pool which is super low maintenance. I found this one that appears to be large enough and made for spas. I guess my question is will it produce enough chlorine to maintain the spa, outside of maybe an extra dose of chlorine after we use the tub?

I have been putting 60 mL of 12.5% chlorine in after the spa is used by two and in the AM to maintain the spa. Water chemistry is okay, outside of PH has also been a little bit of a battle, but it sound like that is expected with all of the aeration that happens within a spa. If I am missing something, please poke some holes in my process.

Thank you all!

Justin

I am not knowledgeable enough to answer your question. But I was in the same boat as you with my chlorine continuously dropping every day in my new hot tub that was purged before first use. It would drop to 0 ppm Cl over night. And with just me and my wife using it and adding chlorine after getting out. Six months later (and using Aqua Clarity every week) I purged drained and refilled. Now, my chlorine lasts twice (maybe 3 times) as long. I have no idea what was going on. Something had to be in my water.

The only thing that I can imagine is my Hot tub had been sitting 2 years before I purchased it. Maybe the “clean out” needed more time than my initial purge???

One thing I am gonna do is a drain and fill more often than every six months. Max 4 months. Probably every 3.

You may try draining and refilling before purchasing the salt device. Just my thoughts. It fixed my situation.

I appreciate the insights there. That very well could be an issue. I did use Ahhsome when it was delivered. They are swapping out my current tub with a new one in a few weeks, so I will likely wait until the new tub arrives. Are you using liquid chlorine? If so, about how much are you putting in?

I am using a 10% liquid chlorine. Currently I am using about 2 oz every other day. Before, I could not miss a day of adding Cl. Now I can go 2 and maybe 3 days and still have Cl. My old water would fizz like a Pepsi in a glass and my new water doesn't. Bottom line, draining filling will be my first play of choice going forward.
