I was reading some posts here about the Pentair Screenlogic iOS app (whether to move to the Pentiar Home app) and stumbled upon someone commenting that they use an old iPhone 4 in a waterproof case as a spa remote. I have always hated taking my current cellphone outside the built-in spa to control temp and such, wrapping it in a towel, and this post opened my eyes. I have an old iPhone 4 running iOS 7, I charged it up, reset it, and I downloaded the Screenlogic app from the AppStore (it said I could download the latest version that worked on this old phone, and i said "oh yeah!"), and voila! That old version does just fine: I can turn on/off/adjust temp on spa, turn lights on/off, and a few other niceties. So this post is simply to say THANK YOU for posting items that you may never think others, years later, could make use of. Now I need to find an old waterproof case for this old iPhone4. Or maybe a ziploc bag work just as well.

As I've said before, this place is awesome, and I just wish I had discovered it during our pool's first life in 1998-2020 prior to the major remodel.

Thanks all!

@Dirk has repurpoused several old devices to have then all over. He's your guy if you need tips on adding others. (y)

My iPhone 4 lives in a kitchen cupboard, dedicated to a grocery app. I select items for my grocery list, and that list shows up on my current iPhone while I'm shopping. I don't carry my iPhone while at home, so having one always in the kitchen is very convenient.

My iPhone 5 lives in a cupboard in my laundry room that is dedicated to all things pool. I keep my test stuff in there, extra test chemicals and a few other pool chemicals. That iPhone displays a Home Automation page designed specifically for when I'm testing, and also has Pool Math loaded on it, so I can enter my test results right there. Again, without needing my current iPhone to be handy.

I bought something similar to this phone pouch years ago and it works great. I used to use it while snowboarding. It'd be perfect for your spa remote. There are many brands and models of these on Amazon.

I wouldn't trust a ziploc bag for that job.

Are those temps in F or C? 49 in pool?

Chances are it's an older pic he had quick access to.
Exactly. From November 2022. In fact, I had my first swim of the year a couple days ago in 68°F water! We had our first hot day of Spring (we hit 87°F) and I had gotten overheated working in the yard! Took me a while to get in, but it felt fantastic once I did.

Record [pool] low this year was 46°F. Same as 2023.

Being in central florida, I cannot imagine my pool getting that cold. I think during this last mild winter, our low was maybe 60
It's all relative. I cannot imagine having to deal with a pool that freezes over, needs to be drained or covered or opened each Spring. Or one that has to be enclosed in a screened room. I'm guessing no matter where you live, someone else is glad they don't live there! ;)
