We drove to a great spot north of Charleston for the last one. We're pulling the camper to Arkansas for this one!
We will be in Austin with granddaughters. We already have the ISO approved glasses to watch.

If you have a small telescope with a solar filter on it, that can be really neat for seeing the details. I made a DIY solar filter once and, after a few tries, I finally got it to work with my one good eye …

We have been working on solar photos with our Celestron 8SE, solar filter and canon mirrorless camera in preparation for the eclipse. Got some good sunspot pics. We've been excited for this one since the last one.
Planning a day trip with my Grandson (left) - I have family in the Fort Wayne/Hicksville OH area, and we're planning to drive down, grab my Godson (right), and scoot about 30 minutes south of them to park up and watch the thing.
Still firming up the plan, hoping they know someone with a dairy farm or something out that way - it's basically Cows, Corn and Amish between Fort Wayne and Findlay...

Nar, can’t happen. On a flat earth the sun, the moon, planets, stars and all the other bits and pieces are just an over head projection on the big dome thingo. A solar eclipse occurs when the fellow in the control room turns the sun off at random times just to confuse us.That's when I turn into a werewolf! Arroo!

The flat earth model is worse. The earth is thought to be flat disc with the North Pole at the center and Antartica is a giant ice wall around the outside to hold the ocean in. There is no gravity so there is a dome over the top to hold the atmosphere in. The sun and moon is somehow imbedded in the dome like a giant bed side lamp.
I keep getting FB feeds about it. In the beginning I thought it was funny but the comments just degrade into abuse. The flat earth believers think the accepted planetary system model is a conspiracy driven by NASA and the government.
