High Copper Level in Water - LESLIE'S TEST

Hi,

I tested my pool water yesterday with Taylor 2006Salt results as follows:

Water 68 degrees
FC 7.5
CC 0
pH 7.9
Salt by SWG 3300
Salt by Taylor 3400
TA 90
CYA 70
CH 290
Borates per calculation by amount added 37

I brought a sample to Leslie's (do not usually do this), as I wanted a second opinion on CYA. Copper on test 5.6! calcium hardness 25!!!

Do I need to do anything about the Leslie's results?? I hope you say to toss them.

So the pool was filled in June and if you haven't dumped any 'Xtra Blue' items, or 4-in-1 magic cure alls in, you're likely fine.

Even if you added some, you'd need ALOT to register that much copper. It's possible it's in your fill water, but the only way to remove copper is to exchange the water with copper free water, so you are stuck either way if thats the case.

Was there any reason for copper concern before the test, or did they just throw a curveball at you out of the blue ?

Their copper test has a .5 variance at 1+, but that's in a perfect scenario. A wonky machine isn't uncommon and we've seen so many dead wrong tests from them, (like the calcium also reported), that I consider their printouts to be single ply toilet paper.

There are several different copper test kits you can get to do your own test or get a second opinion from a different place or check your filter cartridges as they will turn blue if you have that much copper in the water.

Copper stains are typically turquoise and then they turn black to gray.

Your plaster has some blue, so it will be difficult to detect early turquoise stains.

You might be getting some turquoise and gray stains, but it is difficult to tell for sure.

Thanks for the reply. I had no copper concern, it’s just part of the test at Leslie’s. Past occasional tests I’ve had at Leslie‘s have showed much lower copper much less than .5. They don’t even offer that test at Pinch A Penny. I don’t use any “blue“ products, and have not used any shock other than a KPMS shock once or twice. I suspect their accuracy as they came up with a hardness level of 25 and I got a 290 on the Taylor test yesterday.

No stains I can see. This is my water today. It’s windy out so it’s hard to see but I included a picture of the sun shelf which is shallow.

I don’t use any “blue“ products, and have not used any shock other than a KPMS shock once or twice.

Thanks for your reply. I obtained a copper test from Amazon today. That’s a Lamotte strip test and the result was zero. You were right on. That was my last visit to Leslie‘s.

Just to be clear, disproving the dumbest kid in class by using the *2nd* dumbest, doesn't necessarily give you the best argument.

But. It was all a wild goose chase anyway so no harm done.
