Mustard and/or Black Algae

What have you done so far?

What makes you think you have black and mustard algae?

I see them! We bought the house recently and moved in about 5 days ago . The chlorine level and cyr was very high then i didn’t do anything and was waiting till move in to exchange the water, there was small amount of black algae but now is more and a lot of mustard algae. I brushed it sometimes but I need to do regularly

The cyr is higher than 150. Does SLAM process works?
Not well. You would need a FC level of 60 with CYA of 150.

You should drain 80% of your pool and get your CYA down to 30-40 for the SLAM Process

It does not look like you have mustard or black algae. More likely you have iron or copper staining.

Follow the SLAM Process step by step with no shortcuts. Once it is complete and you meet the three exit criteria we can assess what you have left.

I was told to exchange the water and not to drain since it might damage the structure. I will follow the steps!

Black algae mainly grows in pitted areas where it is protected.

Black algae is a soft bacteria, like black mold.

If you scrape black algae, you get colors like dark green, blue or black.

If you can't scrape any off, it is not black algae.

The picture below is probably black algae.
