The Easy Touch has stopped communicating with the Controller. At the controller I have gone to settings to the “sending address” mode. The wireless controller will not allow me to select the “settings” with the right arrow. I can only use the up down arrows, but not able to use the right arrow to select anything. I have replaced the batteries. Any help would be appreciated. I purchased the controller with wireless set up in 2018.

Red,

When you put an '@' before a screen name, that member gets notified that his input is requested in a specific thread.

Keep in mind we are all volunteers and that none of us keep 'regular' hours. This means you might get an answer in a few minutes, or it might be days.

This does not keep other members from chiming in if they know the answer.

Tom is just one of our experts on Pentair products...

Thanks,

Jim R.

Thanks Jim, I appreciate your help.

Hey Red, does the select button do anything at all on your controller? (i.e. does it only not work when you're trying to pick settings? - this would be odd)

The buttons on the remotes are terrible, and usually the Menu/Power and Select buttons are the ones that I see fail... so if your select button never works then we can assume the button has failed or is failing. I have a remote with a Menu/Power button that only works for 1 out of 15-20 presses. Try pressing with different pressure and on different parts of the button, but if it still doesn't work then your only option is to hack in a new button... this is a pain because you have to cut the case open. Wish I had better news :(

Tom- You have know idea how much I appreciate your help here. So, no the select button does not do anything. But let me back-up here with some history.

The main controller with the wireless easy touch was installed by Guiton's Pools in 2018 after the Carr Fire damaged the original controller. Everything worked fine. I rarely used the wireless remote because was rebuilding my house. Moved in August of 2020. Everything still working fine. All my pool equipment is in a covered building protected from the weather.

Guiton's has been servicing my pool since 2005. About 2 years ago, I looked out at the pool and the filter was running in the afternoon. Normally runs in am. This was same day as pool gets serviced. I contacted my service person and asked how come he may have left filter running. He said he changed mode to "Time Out" as always does. So, as you know filter should run for 3 hours and then return to "Auto". So, I've kept an eye on that and that issue still exists because everything works fine and I didn't want a spendy repair bill.

So, last Summer, I went to my wireless remote. I turned it on and there was something about syncing or configuring.... then the screen was normal. My device buttons are Spa, Cleaner, Waterfall, Pool Lights. I pressed Waterfall and nothing happened. So I went down to the main controller and turned it on from there. Worked fine. So, turn it off. I don't have a spa, but I pressed the Spa button on the wireless and the Waterfall turned on. So, long story short, the only buttons that worked since then were Menu/Power, P/Filter and Spa/Waterfall. Up/Down Arrows. Select button stopped working. The main thing I use the wireless remote for is the Waterfall , so I didn't pursue repairing it.

This past couple days, I decided I would try to reset the wireless controller and figure it out. I replaced the batteries and went down to the main controller. Went to Settings and tried to sync the address. But I forgot that the wireless Select button won't function so I was unable get it to sync and the wireless controller has "No Com" on the screen.

Also, I opened up the transmitter? which is wired to the main controller. There was a "power" light on and another light flashing every few seconds.

I'm not opposed to opening up the controller as this things are quite spendy to replace. Would be cool to repair it. Guiton's quoted me over $700. Guiton's also advised against switching to the phone app controller as customers have had many issues with that.

Once again, thanks so much for helping me with these issues. Have a great day. Mike

Hey Mike you're welcome. Check out the following thread... there are a few folks now that have cracked these things open and made some repairs.

Hey Mike you're welcome. Check out the following thread... there are a few folks now that have cracked these things open and made some repairs.

Tom- I opened the case and everything inside looks fine. I disconnected that ribbon circuit and reconnected it. The Select button still does not function. And I’ve pressed it in various spots. I’m not electronics savvy when it comes to circuitry. If you have any other links related to that ribbon circuit, that would be great. Maybe I can find someone in Redding to make the fix. I don’t care what it looks like. Thanks again.

i wouldn't do that because it'll destroy the other buttons. if the right arrow/select button is your only bad button i'd do what brad did in that thread i linked in above (drill a small hole for a single button)

Tom- ok, I was just looking at that link. So one wire goes to where the Select circuit meets the board? And the other wire goes?

Thanks-

Mike, check out what Brad did in this photo:

He's got two wires going to his switch... the red wire goes to pin 7 and the orange wire to pin 16.

Now, it was his menu/power button that stopped working, and if you look at the pinout table I added to that thread (How to dissemble and repair Pentair Easy Touch 8 button remote) you'll see that I listed the menu/power button connection as pins 7 and 16... which is exactly what Brad did.

Also from that table, the select/right-arrow button connects to pins 7 and 3... so that's what you'll want to do. It'll look just like Brad's, but your "orange wire" is going to be on pin 3 (the pin count on JP2 starts at the bottom with pin 1 - right next to the JP2 label - and goes up)

Tom-
Just to make sure I didn’t have any other issues, I attached jumper wires to both pins for the Select button. I was able to get to the settings by touching the wires together. I was able to connect to the main control panel. Looks like I’m back in business after I install the switch. I just have to reprogram the buttons as the spa button still turns on the waterfall and that’s supposed to turn on with the 3rd button down. Thanks again for your patience. Have a great weekend!

So, working on the switch and install. Thanks. Now, only issue is my aux buttons, Spa, Cleaner, Waterfall, Pool Light. The spa button turns on Waterfall, cleaner button turns on lights, Waterfall button nothing, Pool Light button nothing. This was issue when select button stopped working. The P button works fine for the pool filter.

I checked Circuit Names/Functions and they all match on both main controller and wireless controller. All the buttons at the main controller work as designated. So my question is does it matter that the Waterfall works with Spa button and Pool Light comes on with the cleaner button. Just re label them?

Red,

Names are how you remember what is what.. The EasyTouch does not care what you call it.

I'm not sure why the main controller and your remote are not the same, but relabeling them would be the simplest thing to do.

Thanks,

Jim R.
