Polaris 280 vs 3900 Sport

Hey folks -
I found a thread on this topic from 2008 and I'm wonder if anyone has any thoughts on the two models since then. In the older thread the consensus was that the 280 was nearly as good as the 3900 and maybe better since it has few parts to break and need replacement.

I just had my pool opened and the polaris is acting a little wonky.....not really moving that well and not really covering much of the pool. The guy who opened it suggested the 3900 Sport as a replacement and talked about the "scrubbing" feature that he said would keep the walls clean. Humm?

On Amazon they have the 280 for $599 and a black version for $769 (yikes!) (but I have a black version now and a dark bottom pool). They list the 3900 Sport for $949.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this or updated advice on the 280 vs the 3900?

Thanks!
Bart

Which Polaris do you have - the 280? Unfortunately, the complete rebuild kits have shot up in price too - it's hardly worth rebuilding them now. At the price they are charging for Polaris pressure side cleaners, it's probably worth just biting the bullet and getting a robot.
