Algae prior to opening saltwater pool

Hi, relatively new pool owner. We have an intex 16x32 above ground pool with salt water generator. We installed the pool last year, and never had any problems with algae or low chlorine levels. Recently opened the pool, and as we were filling the pool from our well, it took nearly a week to get the pool to a level at which we could finally run the SWG and filter. During this time, we had some unexpectedly high temperatures, which resulted in algae developing. The temperatures are cooling (60's F this week) and the SWG is now up and running nonstop. I have added some bleach to help accelerate the process. With the lower temperatures and the SWG running, is there a chance this will be enough to let the pool recover, or will I likely need to SLAM it? We live in a remote area and I don't currently have the proper testing supplies to SLAM appropriately, so would need to wait until they can be shipped to me. The only testing supplies I currently have are for FC, pH, and alkalinity. The FC levels are so low they are currently undetectable (but only got the SWG up and running yesterday). Any help is greatly appreciated.

will I likely need to SLAM it?
Afraid so. SWGs are not designed to increase FC quickly or maintain the FC level required for the SLAM Process. Once you get your test kit, I would recommend using your TF-100 or Taylor K-2006C to first verify your current CYA level, then increase and maintain the proper SLAM FC level as noted on the FC/CYA Levels. Also be sure to lower the pH to about 7.2 before starting the SLAM.

While waiting on the kit, you can leave the cell on for now, but also add about 5 ppm of liquid chlorine each day. Brush and inspect the pool as best as you can.

Follow the SLAM Process when your kit arrives and you should get back on track just fine. Good luck!
