New to pool ownership last year and have a question I can't seem to find an answer to.
We have a 27' round above ground roughly 17,000 gallons. It came with a Hayward dual speed pump 2hp. High speed is 3450rpm and low speed is 1725rpm. We have a 175 sqft Hayward cartridge filter. Right now the pump is set on an out door timer to run roughly 10-12 hours a day. Here in mid Michigan area our pool season is usually May - September.
It seems that our pool gets what I think is brown dirt or gunk build up in it quite quickly. Its not green. When you brush it it seems to be a lighter color brown and breaks up and will discolor the water for a bit. We have to vacuum the pool about once every 2 days or this stuff builds up in the bottom of the pool.
I have already picked up from this group that I need to do some modification to our wedding cake steps that it has in it. So I'll do that this weekend.
My question is which speed should I be running the pump on when I am running it? High or low speed? Would it be better to run it on low speed 24/7 or run it on high speed for 10 hours a day?
Any help would be appreciated.

Low speed should be just fine most of the time. Mine is on low 24/7 just for the erase of skimming surface debris and run my SWG. I almost never use high speed. See more in teh link below. Have a great weekend.
