Pool pump not priming

Hi all,

I looked at my pool pump yesterday, and I believe it isn't priming. I uploaded some videos to my Google Drive for a better visual, but to explain what's going on, the water doesn't fill all the way up to the top of the lid.

I tried to fix it by turning off the pump and opening it to put in more water, but as soon as I took off the lid, water started overflowing. After that, I just put the lid back on since the overflow technically filled it up with water, and I now have what you see in the video.

So there are two issues here:

1. Pool pump doesn't prime.
2. When I open the pump lid, water overflows constantly.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

That tells me you have an air leak in the system allowing air in which pushes the water out. You'll want to look carefully at all exposed areas on the equipment pad. As an example, water comes out of my pump pot area if I open the filter air relief. But you have air entering somewhere.

Understood, I’ll have to figure out where that air is coming from. In the meantime, is the pool pump okay to keep running as long as there is water going through it?

It's fine to run as it is for now. Your air is 90% coming from
A. The lid
B. The large black union facing you
or
C. The clear check valve cover in front of the union. I'm guessing it's the lid.

Try to use lube on the lid o ring, the union oring, and jandy oring.

While the pump is running you can use a hose to run water over those three spots while watching to see if the air bubbles slow down. If they do while your running water over one of those parts thats where its pulling air in.
