How Long Does a SLAM Usually Last

Hello All,

I know a SLAM will have varying time lengths depending on how much babysitting one does and the condition of the pool, but I am now in the second week of SLAMming and I'm just wondering if I'm doing anything wrong. I try to test at least once every two hours. I've had two consecutive nights in a row that I didn't loose any FC, but tested again this morning and had lost 1 ppm of FC. During the day I'm loosing from 1 to 3 ppm each test cycle. My water looks crystal clear. I don't vacuum everyday because it looks very clean. I do try to brush the walls and floor at least once every couple of days. Am I being impatient? You can look at my test results in my profile.

Hey GPM !!! Sorry it’s dragging on. It tests the patience of all of us at times. First things first. Your vigilance in Maintaining is amazing. Well done there. Whether or not you are seeing the results you wanted, You’d be seeing way worse without it. So there is that.

Go on a full blown algae hunt. Ladder rails, light niches, every nook and cranny of the skimmers, water features, auto fillers…. Everywhere is suspect until you prove it otherwise. Usually when the water is as clear as it’s been, but it’s dragging on, its being reintroduced somewhere.

if you can’t find anything to explain it, deep clean the filter. It could be a 200 lb Petri dish holding onto all the nasties.

I have never deep cleaned my filter, so maybe you're on to something... I will do that.

OK, deep cleaned the filter, took the ladder out of the pool and sprayed every inch with bleach water. I had buckets filled with cement, to hold the ladder down, took the lids off and low and behold, I had some algae growing under the lid on the rim of the bucket, it got sprayed with bleach water as well. Added some water to the pool, so I could backwash and rinse. Needless to say the tests results were all jacked up after all that. We'll see how it all levels out tomorrow.

Way to go! Finding the hidden places where your algae is growing is HUGE. You will be on your way now Keep us updated, because we love success stories

Just wanted to let you guys know, my algae issue is resolved. Thanks @Newdude for suggesting looking in all "nooks and crannies". A good lessons learned on that.
