New Pool in Houston, TX - Completed August 2021

Maybe you could lay out some hoses in your yard for the designed shape of the pool (or at least close) and see how it looks, or you can move the hoses in your yard to what you think you would like, THEN measure and see what you came up with.
this seems like a most excellent idea! I shall pull the hoses out of the shop this weekend so the wife and I can have some fun designing..

I tried with hoses, but it's pretty hard to work with. If you buy orange or red electrical extension cord(s) (100'+) it's much easier to shape as it's more pliable.

Once you like the shape, you can buy some spray paint and spray a thicker design to make it more visible. Try using one that can wash off easily with water...mine stayed on even until the PB came to spray the official layout/design, so he had to use a different color spray...LoL

Hello all,

Not much progress since last few weeks. The on/off rain has really slowed down any work and required a re-dig due to the walls caving in on the wooden form.

After the re-dig, we had rain again all day yesterday and more cave-ins. Although we're patient with the timing of the build, we're really worried about the cave ins, especially the one closest to our house.

At the closest point, the pool would be 4' 3" to our patio, however a part where the pool shape curved in has caved in the worst, and is now only 2 feet away from the house foundation.

I'm attaching a picture here to see what you guys think. We're pretty worried about this but wanted to see if anyone has more knowledge with how real the threat of damage to our home is.

Thanks in advance!

Neil

I really like your pools shape and was going to have my PB (when I find one) use it but finally found a shape that will fit our space..
Not sure about your cave in issues and sorry you have to endure that ordeal. Definitely going to be reading to glean some knowledge since I want to start ours soon and dont want to get a 12ft hole that sits!

Do you have a full basement ? If so the wall goes down 8ft and sits on a footer. You will be fine if the whole thing collapses.

If you are on a slab it will probably still be ok as long as there isn’t a large collapse from under the slab. Definitely some risk this way tho.

We dont do basements in most of Texas.. so pretty sure he doesnt have a basement. He would have footers along his slab.. usually 18" down.. This is the reason I didnt want to go with the first guy that could dig a hole.. Hope the OP gets this fixed soon.

That's correct, no basement here in Houston, TX. We have a reputable greater Houston pool builder who has built several of our friend's pools so hopefully we're okay.

Unfortunately, there is more heavy rain forecasted for tonight and lighter rain for another couple of days. The PB site manager came by today and installed a tarp over the areas close to the house. I hope it helps.

I am sorry y’all are going through this. What did the pool builder say?

After this rain storm passes, I would ask the PB if the closeness to the home will even pass city of sugar land inspection. The city has come out at different points to inspect our build so I suspect they will have questions. (Not sure if they came out more Bc we have the kitchen/sewer line 🤷🏽‍♀️)

personally, I think it’s too close as well and would be worried just like y’all. Good luck! Keep us posted on the next steps.

We're in Riverstone, which apparently isn't within city limits, although we have the Sugar Land address. Hence, our build did not require a city permit, so no city inspection. This was a good thing initially, but now I'm thinking it's not really...LOL.

Just checking in....what's going on with your build? Did the builder fix the parts that were caving in?

Yes, they just dug it again yesterday afternoon. They used taller stakes and re-formed the shape. After I measured everything again last evening, most areas were the same or slightly larger, but one area didn't seem right, so I had the PB come back this morning and he agreed and is trying to get someone here to correct it today.

Hoping the rain stays out so we can get plumbing, rebar and Gunite, hopefully all next week.

My husband and I were wondering what happened with your pool. Thank you for the update. I hope they were able to correct it today (it is nice and hot and dry today!)

I hope the rain stops as well! We did plaster today so hopefully we should be done in a week or so!

It looks like you've got rebar done already. My PB mentioned that the cave-ins are easier to deal with before rebar, however he had a couple of his current homes with rebar already that started to cave. At that point, they still correct the issue, it's just more timely and requires more effort on their part.
