Difference between Touch of Glass and Puerto Rican Blend?

Hi there - Is there a difference between Stonescapes Touch of Glass and Puerto Rican Blend? The website makes it seem like there is a difference (Puerto Rican blend has maybe smaller glass beads?), but I have a sample that says "Aqua Blue with Touch of Glass, Puerto Rican Blend", which makes it seems like it it combined. The pool supply guy that gave me the sample said Touch of Glass was the new name for Puerto Rican blend, but when I called to clarify, someone said they were two different products. I sure like the look of the sample I have, but am signed up for just mini pebble and am not sure I want to spend extra $$.

Your confusion is justified.

Best that I have been able to gather, there is a difference. The Blend has smaller glass beads.

Whatever the case, with each glass bead product, you are just buying a recipe and the requisite number of bags for that recipe.

The recipe assumes that the beads will be added to the plaster when it is mixed. In part, that accounts for the significant surcharge since there are more beads than will appear on the surface.

The alternative is to make your own recipe and have the installers handcart the beads on the surface.

I will be watching this thread closely. I have posted the same question on my build thread and I was confused cause they sound almost identical in the description.
I hope someone who has these comes by for clarification and also post pictures.
I'm doing the beads but not sure which one and I might add shells as well to get the desired look

it’s four years later for thread and there are still are people searching for this answer (me) now that I have the answer I will post. Both have glass beads, Puerto Rico blend is a mix of blue colored beads and the addition of iridescent beads to the mix. . Example is if you want aqua blue with Puerto Rico blend its a blend of premixed blue beads (PR MIX) and they add iridescent beads. If you want aqua blue with touch of glass its a combination of bags of different color glass beads but not with the iridescent beads.

Hi, I am having to finalize my decision this week and I have picked the aqua white mini pebble. I wanted to add glass, but not sure what. The pb has it listed that we want "touch of glass" not entirely sure what that means or how much as we were not told. And then I found the puerto rican blend, which I believe is a little different. I think I'm liking that more. But I can't seem to find too many pics with those options.

I have some of the formulas for TOG and Mini Pebble, unfortunately, I dont have the aqua white, but by looking on the NPT site, it looks like Aqua White TOG has added sky blue glass beads. The PR Blend is a mix of sky blue, cobalt blue and iridescent. Hopefully, that helps.

Hi, do you have any formulas for midnight blue? I am trying to make it darker without adding any green. TOG or PR Blend. Thank you!!

Hi RayneZane, yes, I have it for Mini, TOG and PRB, which do you want? Below is Regular and Mini Pebble

Black Pebble 9 bags
White Pebble 1 bag
Gold Pebble 1 bag
Quartz Mix 1 bag
White Cement 6 bags
Midnight Blue Liquid Pigment 2 quarts.

I would think if you wanted to make it darker without any green, I would take out the gold (Gold makes green) and add another black, but your pool finisher should be able to answer that pretty easily.

Hello all..
Does anybody have the formula for stone scape aqua blue mini pebble and stone scape aqua white mini pebble. I’m really looking for a Vibrant blue color with no green at all. I am also looking into adding Puerto Rico blend to give it to sparkle.

Hello,

We were on the fence between Aqua Blue vs Aqua White. Like you, we don’t want any green or teal tint. I was able to see an Aqua Blue pool in person today and it did have a very slight teal tint. Also, I was able to see a hint of brown in the pebble, which is actually gold. We chose Aqua White with additional Cobalt glass. They are pouring tomorrow, so I’ll let you know how it turns out. I’m nervous that it will be too light, but I’d rather that than to have a teal tint.

How did it go? Happen to have any pics? I need to choose something this weekend. Thinking aqua white with hand cast beads but not sure which blend. TIA

Hi! Did you end up finishing your pool? Curious what formula you went with. I'm leaning toward Midnight Blue, but also would like it to be darker without leaning green. Thanks in advance!
We did finish about 4 weeks ago. We went with StoneScapes midnight blue with 3 bags of cobalt glass beads per batch. It’s a dark blue with no hint of green which is exactly what I was looking for. I will try and upload a picture. I don’t use this site often so I am still learning.
