Expected Downtime Sometime Soon

Let me quickly toss out a few comments about some of what I’m seeing.

For starters, all of this was planned for a month ago. I really really didn’t want to do this right now so close to the swim season. Things happened however and just like EVERYTHING right now in the country, we got delayed. I apologize to everybody who’s going to have to adjust things so close to the swim season.

Some issues,
  • Keyboard Editor
    • As is they made some rather large updates to the keyboard editor and changed how icons are accessed. I’ve got on a staging site a new “flow” setup but still need to manually update things on TFP
    • In addition to the icons being in very weird places, some of the font awesome icons aren’t even being displayed correctly. The developer is looking at why this is, but I suspect I’m not gonna wait, my gut says I’ll just alter some icons that aren’t working to something new
  • Wiki not updating
    • This should now be fixed
  • Alerts
    • I agree they’re slightly wonky, but I haven’t figured out the behavior just yet. Once I get a second I’ll figure out what’s up
  • Weird order of postings
    • My gut says this is a setting on your end. I’ll look into it shortly and PM you for more info
  • Copy post into PM
    • Not sure why this isn’t working. This was done using a Modification and it’s possible the Mod needs updated
Lastly is the big one, What’s New. This was removed because we needed to slim down. The Sidebar had too many options and the What’s New was mostly a carbon copy of what’s inside of the Forums tab. Because of that we opted to remove the What’s New. The majority of this last update is to further prepare TFP for the future. If all goes well we’ll hopefully be able to make some additional changes that’ll make you forget all about the What’s New tab……and if there’s massive issues because of its removal, it can be 100% restored by clicking one option. 👍

I'll learn to live without the What's New Tab.

FWIW, this is the only time I have seen a site upgrade on in an internet community site where you didn't have at least 1 person complaining to the point of saying they were done with the site. That speaks volumes, good job.

Like, go back to IRL ?? Have you *seen* IRL this last year ? Some things kinda happened and it’s a mess. I’ll GLADLY deal with some new buttons and things out of place. ANYTHING but IRL !!!! :ROFLMAO:

I never use What's New (I had called it out wrong previously). I very much use "New Posts," all day every day, so I hope that will still be accessible. If I don't like where its menu or button ends up, I'll make a keyboard shortcut for it.

@Leebo I made a post using Safari on an iPhone 12 Pro and attached some screenshots to the post as inline images as I’ve done in the past. They showed up as a “click to view attachment” link instead of an image when I posted. If I click it says no permissions to view post. If I edit the post the two attached images are not visible at the bottom of the post.

Not me. I'm going to hold my breath, pout, and stomp my feet until it comes back. That was my go-to button for all forum posts. Now I have to dig an extra step or two depending on where I left off. Rats! I am struggling with several of the recent changes (format, visual, library, etc). But Lee has been a good sport and listened to me whine. Now I need a beer.

I originally bookmarked the new posts page and thought that was TFP for the longest time. Now it seem weird to do it any other way.

Pat, do you mean "What's New" or "New Posts?" Apparently they're not the same, and I was mistakenly interchanging those terms when describing them. I use "New Posts" and not "What's New." I think Newdude is also talking about "New Posts." I'm still not clear on the difference between the two. Is "New Posts" a subset of "What's New?"

Also, Lee is talking about removing "What's New" in post #41. But it's not clear to me if he's talking about the link, some buttons or the actual page(s). Currently, the page still exists, even if the sidebar link is gone. Here:

So maybe @Leebo can clear that up when he checks back in...

The old "What's New" that was on the left menu. Lee already told me it had to be dropped for space issues. I'll just have to get used to making a couple extra clicks.

Here is a screenshot of the setup behind the scenes. On this page you'll see some items that are in blue, those are the main categories. These categories are what gets shown in the side menu. So on this screenshot it shows the "What's New" and "Media" categories. Under the blue bar is a selection of other items, those were the pages you can access from that main category. You'll see under the What's New category there's the option for New Posts. Lastly you'll see that the category "What's New" has the toggle on the far right turned off. If I turn that back on the ONLY difference is that it'll get added to the sidebar. I suspect many users here never really noticed that they were always in the "What's New" category because they primarily surf TFP by looking at the New Posts page. I totally grasp that, because that's what I do.

The link for "What's New" won't be deleted. It's always going to be there as it's something I can't even really alter without editing code. One option would be to bookmark that page and you'll go right there.

Or you can trust me and know there's still more we hope. ;)

Ugh, I keep going back and forth. I now realize I've always been using the What's New button and the What's New page. NOT New Posts like I've been saying all day. So now I'm saying I liked the What's New button where it was. And will miss it. I've got a bookmark, so now biggie...

That said, I'll be patient and see what you've got planned before I start the petition...

I tried to get used to the "What's New" page but kept drifting back to the "New Posts" Page.... so I'll pass on the petition.

I still see a few missing buttons on the feature bar in the editor... The pop out is displayed for the superscript and subscript buttons, but there is no button. And to the left of that is a blank space to the right. I've been hitting F5 all day. Other than that, I'm liking the new layout.

I still haven't found a way to search conversations. Any hints?

There is a hiccup still with a few of the Font Awesome icons showing up correctly in the toolbar. The Sub/Super script ones are the most obvious ones, but a few of the icons for articles are MIA as well. I hope to look further into this today as I suspect it’s a smaller issue. If it’s taking more than a few minutes to address I’ll axe them for now…..but I suspect joyfulnoise will be mad at me 😂

I just tried to add media photos to a post and it is missing in the editor, is this one of the problem Childs or is it me :)

Is this the post you were talking about?

When you went to the gallery and copied the link you’ll want to copy one with the BBcode, not just the link. In this case the software treated it only as a link while the code below shows it after copying the BBcode
