Well it's kind of that time I can tell where none of us are using the pool anymore because it's a bit too cold, kids are just going and playing at the park more now. If you're from phoenix or have warmer weathered winters (not snowing), what's your method for "winterizing"? What steps do I need? Pool cover? chlorine? run the pump? I've heard people drain theirs to below the intake hole level, so I'm assuming they don't run their pumps. Let me know please!

Easy .............. we don't!
Unlike those up north, we don't lower the water or disconnect things and close it down. We keep the pool operating, although you can easily reduce the pump run time per day. Chlorine use will drop significantly once the water temps drop below 70. We have those really weird freeze warnings once or twice each winter, but if you keep the water moving nothing will freeze. It's really just cleaning out the skimmer occasionally and adding some chlorine once a week or so. The colder water makes pool maintenance very easy on us.Thanks! So what's the deal with the covers? One came with ours but I'm wondering if I'm just setting myself up for a slam when March comes around.Easy .............. we don't!

Pool covers are optional. In your area, it's probably more beneficial in the summer to cut-down on the crazy heat and UV on the water which saves some free chlorine. In the winter, not so much a big deal unless you have a ton of falling leaves you want to keep from getting in the pool.

Here in the Phoenix area we keep our pools open year round. So you will be maintaining it to the same high TFP standards you have been using all summer. You will notice that your pool won't be using as much chlorine in winter as summer. Just keep your chemical levels in check, same as you've been doing.
