*UPDATED* Is liquid stabilizer worth it?

My understanding is there are 2 concerns with adding your CYA through the skimmer:
1. CYA is very acidic and by going through the skimmer, that acid is also going through all of your equipment in concentrated amounts, vs being dissolved in the entire pool.
2. Your filter can grab the undissolved CYA and take longer to dissolve. If you backwash/clean your filter before it is dissolved, you just lost the CYA you added. Also, I cant imagine the acidic particles trapped in a cartridge or DE filter are very good for the filters.

All good points. Thanks!

Yep, I put the CYA granules in a sock and tied some string to it, tied it to the frame of my pool (I have an Intex) right in front of the return, let it do it’s thing, and periodically squeezed it. It took less than an hour to dissolve about 10 ounces. Now I’m running my pump 24/7 until it fully registers. Should I test again in 2 or 3 days? Or longer? I’m starting to get low on my CYA testing reagent from my liquid stabilizer experiment that I had to do twice lol
I think if you check it a couple days after you have added, that would be fine. I normally only test mine every couple of weeks unless we get a lot of rain.

For the record- I often use the liquid just because I like instant gratification. Used it this week, in fact.

Just gotta know you should plan on using the entire jug since it takes so much rinsing to get all the viscous sludge out of the bottom of the jug.

When my CYA gets low I just start using pucks in a floater until it's back up where I want it, and take a break from the liquid chlorine. Sometimes it even works when I can do it while on vacation and then don't need to worry about my chlorine while I'm gone. Easy peasy.

Curious. Is the pump running when you're on vacation?

I was afraid to use the whole jug since I only have a 7000 gallon pool and the PoolMath app said to only use 25 ounces for my CYA and pool size. I didn’t want to accidentally screw it up and increase it to where I’d have to drain.
