We are having issues with algae coming back after robot and brushing. We can still see the bottom but the water is green tinted. Chlorine was 2.4 free Chlorine and total chlorine of 1 a couple days ago. We bought the K-2006 after reading on this site. We haven't ever put in cya.

Today's test results after adding 2 gallons of laundry bleach. We also have a feeder that takes tablets (bought from Sam's) trichlor i believe.

fc 12.4 (We are having company Wednesday so i hate to raise it any more than that for now.)

Guess what -- you have been adding CYA via the feeder. Trichlor adds about 6 CYA for every 10 FC.

Absolutely unbelievable. I told my daughter we don't need to test for that because we have never added any acid. PAGirl told me we need to test for that because we have used the trichlor. Man I hate to give up the feeder because it's so easy to fill it once a week. Is there a different type of puck? Seems like i got some at a pool store that I could set the feeder on low and keep the chlorine about right.

Nope -- your options for chlorine are pucks or liquid bleach.

Pucks = bad. Liquid = good. :)

Our job here is to educate you as to the good and "evils" of however you decide to chlorinate. There is absolutely no rule against or shame inferred upon you here even if you decide to rotate between the 3 methods. Your choice to balance "easy"....."enough CYA".......and "enough Calcium". We don't sell bleach here! We offer education so you know what to expect when you add whatever you add.

It may be easier initially, but once our CYA gets elevated too high it's going to be nothing but money, time and a lot more effort to keep it from turning green. 5-10 minutes a day adding liquid bleach will save you a lot of time, money and headaches in the future.

Ok here's a status update. We didn't go higher than the 12 fc. We had more algae yesterday settled on the bottom. Vacuumed that to drain and probably lowered the level 3 inches then we replaced that 3 inches. I did add a bag of shock (treats 10,000 gallons) of sodium dichloro.

Why is cya up and alkalinity down?

cya test is being able to see a black dot. It was getting dark outside so we redid the test indoors (but still not as bright as outdoors with direct sun) and got the same 70?
Thank you for all the help!
