For those of you that you live in or around LA, and have LA DWP for your electricity, you can get a really cheap VSP.
LA DWP gives a $1000 rebate and my end cost was just $200.
You have to currently own a single speed pump to get this price and rebate. Has to be on a pool, one per household.
I used this company
http://www.poolsbyben.com/
They were by far the cheapest. And they take care of applying for the rebate.
I just had to write them a check for $200. The cost is $1200, but they apply for the rebate, and give you credit for it.
They installed a Hayward SP2303VSP variable speed pump. They set it up to run at night, one of the rebate rules is pump can only run from 8pm to 10am, off peak hours.
So how does it work?
Call them, make an appointment, it was about a week later or so.
They come out, I gave them $200, and had to give them some signed forms they had emailed, mostly for the rebate.
My wife was home when they came. Guy came, installed it in a couple hours, and left.
They leave the old pump by your equipment, with a do not move tag on it. You have to save it until the DWP comes and inspects the new pump for the rebate.
So what's the bad part?
At this price, don't expect much extra service. They did not show my wife how the pump works, guy didn't even tell her when he was leaving.
They didn't even leave an owner's manual or receipt, I had to call and have them email that to me.
Having said that, I would use them again. The other companies I checked were a LOT more, almost double the cost.
There is a $50 Hayward pump rebate now, so your cost would be just $150. Pump probably will pay for itself by the end of summer.
So I had to figure out how the pump works, but its easy enough.
They have to do a lot of installs to keep their price down, so I don't mind that I had to figure some stuff out to be able to pay so little for the pump.
And it's really nice they take care of the DWP rebate and credit it to you ahead of time, so you just pay $200 when they do the install.
In the end, DWP waived the inspection, so I didn't even have to deal with that. I am guessing this company does so many rebates, DWP trusts them now.
