What would cause this multi stone linear coping crack?

Started with a freeze. Grew with additional freezes. Not obvious to me why this happened. What should I look for?

As noted, you do not have an expansion joint and the deck is pushing against the coping.

The bond beam is probably cracked.

Can you show the whole pool and deck?

How old is the pool?

You will need to get an expansion joint in as soon as possible.

You will need to remove the stones and check the bond beam.

Pool was finished by Anthony Sylvan deck subcontractor in April 2020. No instructions to seal or otherwise maintain. Pics attached. No mastic joint or anything between travertine packets and coping that I can tell. Lots of prefilled pics attached. Willingness to high a ew company to fix if it was done poorly.

Confirmed the cause. All around the perimeter of the travertine deck there is a decent gap. All except one large stone that was pushed up against the brick of the house. The cracked coping is straight across from where that stone was touching the wall. Will shave that big piece of travertine and put it back with a decent gap to avoid this problem from recurring.

I dug down beside the cracked coping and saw no sign of cracks in the bond beam. Tiles under the coping are intact and still connected solidly to the wall. May have lucked out in only having to remove/replace a few coping stones. Any suggestions on how to do that without causing damage to the tiles or adjacent coping?

I just wanted to say thanks. Your guidance on this site has been great over the short period I have had this pool. Today has been no different. Much appreciated and now a Silver supporter. I finished cutting a decent gap where the travertine meets the brick and cleaned up a lot of edges around the coping. Replacement coping ready to go in as soon as I remove the cracked ones. Those four edge slivers all fell right off when touched so I can at least see the tiles are intact. PB used construction adhesive to adhere the coping so this is gonna be a mess.

Try cutting the grout joints first and then gently try to lift the stones.

They might just easily pull up.

If not, do some relief cuts and try again.

Keep adding relief cuts until the pieces come off relatively easily.

You can use a hammer and chisel under the stones once you get some relief cuts.

You can try to gently hammer a putty knife beneath the stone to get it to pop off.

I suspect that the stones will probably come off easier than you expect.
