What is my pool made of? Can I patch areas?

Hello! We want to get around to doing something to this pool but I'm curious if anyone can tell me what it's made of. Gunite? What appears to be underneath? Concrete, fiberglass, tile? I can't tell. Could we patch these areas, still use the pool and save up to resurface next year? What about painting after patching just to temporarily cover stains?
We know from the past that pool functions properly and we are replacing sand filter and pump just to update them now. Thanks for any guidance!

I am new to TFP and just tried to upload my first picture and got a message that the file was to large. Can someone please let me know how to reduce the file size. Thanks

We are in the process of cleaning it out

Looks like an old plaster pool that needs a replaster. And that skimmer looks broken and may need replacement.

Does the pool leak or hold water?

It holds water. We will likely be replacing that skimmer.
