Hi dear members,

I haven't been able to remove these stains from my pool since I bought my home less than a year ago, when I got my home the water was dark green and after clearing it up those stains remained, not sure if they were there before.

The water is balanced, I have already used Cal Hypo shock, daily brushing and I still didn't see a difference, a pool company even used phosphate remover. Any product that you could suggest that could help get rid of those stains?

A pool company suggests to drain the pool and acid wash it but it is already quite hot in Phoenix, AZ (between 85-110 degrees daily) so I wouldn't like to that the risk of getting cracks.

Thank you!
JR

I suspect that it is a combination of copper and iron stains.

Your heater has cast iron headers and that can add a lot of iron to the water.

Put a vitamin C tablet on a spot.

Hi,

Attaching pics of the pool and the system, the heater, secondary pump and spa features are not functional, and I'd assume they were not for a while since there was no natural gas connection, planning to get that re enabled later on.

The stains as you can see are all over the place.

I have already ordered online the jacks stain id kit, will get it in a few days and post some updates.

Regards,
JR

It looks like copper and iron.

The turquoise is probably copper and the brown is probably iron.

The heater is probably the source of some or most of the copper and iron.

If the heater is not being used, you should remove it from the system.

Can you remove this panel and show the rear header?

Ascorbic acid might clear the brown if it is iron.

Brown can also be from silver if someone added silver algaecide.

Put a vitamin C tablet on a brown spot.

Ascorbic might clear copper and it might make it worse.

You can also try citric acid, oxalic acid or sulfamic acid.

Hi James,
Attaching the pictures from two different angles, also one from the front compartment.

I think there is no water flowing through it, the second pump doesn't work and the pipes attached to the heater don't seem to have water flowing through.

JR

Ok, the headers are cast iron, so they might be the source of some of the iron and copper.

Can you tell for sure if water is going through the heater or not?

In any case, water did go through the heater at one time.

Put a vitamin C tablet on a brown spot.
