In response to both linen and dmsattelberg
A. I am out of town for business 3-4 days/wk. So my husband has to deal with the pool while I am gone. He does the best he can, but has some physical disability so some days are not so good. At the very least he added a gallon of 10% bleach each day I was gone.
B. At least the jug says 10%…we bought a different brand last week. Based on test results, it is acting more like 8.25%, and I have upped the dosage.
C. I looked at the CYA chart again. If 40 = 16 FC, then 45 … would be

more! Grrrr. But the FC was at 18 at dusk. Must have been distracted by the contractor working at the house last week end.
D. The wind died down this afternoon, so I decided to vacuum. I can now see the outline of the vacuum head on the floor of the shallow end (approx. 3 ft.) Very few leaves considering the wind, one dead grasshopper, a couple of beetle looking things, and some sand. Found the pvc piece I almost had last week. Still looking for husband's glasses.
E. Ordered a Poolskim this week. Can't keep up with the bugs floating around the pool. Although I did take great satisfaction in flipping the dead backswimmer out of the pool this morning

F. Time spent working on pool this fall has generated some outstanding thoughts  on New pool plumbing, equipment, and landscaping.
