Replace bearings on CaliMar 1.5 HP VS pump

Doesn't look like the shaft seals are a common part, there are some numbers on there, maybe i can track them down.

This should be the same pump. Check the diagram/parts list on Page 14:

I'm probably calling it the wrong thing. The part I'm talking about is rubber and straddles the opening of the metal plate for the motor housing. It popped out when I pulled the plates off.

You will definitely need a new shaft seal. That's what caused the issue in the first place. From the picture it looks like a standard PS-201 seal, but may not be.
A picture of what you are describing would help.
