Raypak 336A - no pilot sensed

Thank you very much for clarification! I will pick up proper fittings to test the gas pressure during ignition sequence to verify both pressure drop at gas inlet test port and gas outlet test port during ignition sequence. It is so tempting to run a test wire from the power switch to the PV terminal on the gas valve and get pressure readings - but factory service video indicates not to do that.

It doesn’t sound like a voltage problem to me it sounds like the solenoid isn’t opening. Since voltage is monitored any indication of voltage across valve before demand will result in an error.

If the gas valve solenoid is stuck closed, the amp draw will rise above the rated amp draw listed on the gas valve nameplate much like a motor will draw 4-5 times more than the listed full load/running load amps when starting from a standstill. Most multimeters will be able to measure amp draw when the meter is in series with the load as long as the amp draws does not exceed 10A.

New gas valve arrived today. It took about 90 minutes to replace the valve - novice gas fitter here. Thanks all for ferreting out the issue.

The burner assembly came out without too much trouble. Not sure if it is normal for the burner tubes to appear more oxidized toward the back. Underside of burner tubes looked very clean.

The heater fired up first try after replacing the valve. Adjusted temp down and heater shut off as expected. Adjusted heat up again and it fired up without issues.

Last question: it appeared that the pilot light stayed lit after the burners fired up. Is that normal? The pilot does shut off when the main burners shut down.
