Please Help-Green, Hazy Water and Zero Free Chlorine since 5/18/15 =-(

Riddle me this Batman.....LOOK at this in the skimmer - what type of algae is this? Yuck! Pool water looking better. In the photos I have the Dolphin vacuuming the pool. Our hand vac - that the other owner left, broke. LMK what you think of the algae photos and here are the counts too for now:
FC = 32 drops x.5 = 16 ppm
CC = 1 drop x .5 = .5
Adding another 8.5 cups of bleach now. I cleaned out skimmer too.

I didn't feel it and already have cleaned it. I looked in skimmer now and there isn't any again yet. When I did find it though, it was very clumpy in the skimmer sock. I'll be sure to see the Dolphin vacuum - what it feels like in there if I can see it on the bag.

Ok got the vacuum out and looked in the bag - lots in there. I was able to feel it - not slimy. Soft it seemed and a little gritty. It was hard to tell but wasn't slimy. Here is a photo.

What does that tell us?

New counts:
FC = 18 ppm
CC = .5 (question, when I put in the 003 - it doesn't turn a slight pink - is that ok? What does that mean? I put one drop in of the 0871 and it looks more clear is all.) Does that mean my CC is really 0?

Adding 34 oz of bleach.

thanks! Jen

VERY good news!

It means you are well on the way to a clear pool.

Do NOT stop! You still have to get all of that stuff off the bottom and the water so clear that you could read a coin in the deep end.

It might go back up once or twice but that is no big deal. It just means the beach found something else to kill.

It actually reminds me of the pollen I caught in my skimmer sock about a month ago when the pollen was really bad in my area. It was kinda spongy feeling.

Either way, the way to prevent algae is to maintain your FC at the proper level for your cya. (after your SLAM) As long as you keep your FC where it's supposed to be you won't have to worry about algae anymore!

For now keep on with the SLAM process! Your pool is really starting to look nice!

I do see a slight improvement in honesty. Today is really only day 3 in the SLAM process as you were greatly slowed by the lack of reagents. It likely took some while for the algae to grow....it also takes time to reverse that. I'm seeing small improvements in both your numbers and the photos. Hang in there.

As for the stuff you found in the pantyhose. You described it as "gritty" not slimy. To me that description points to dirt or sand. Often algae is a slimy and pollen is squishy. Keep brushing and it will clean up.

Jen look at all of the progress you have already made! Keep the work up and it WILL clear up! I hate that it is taking so long :(

Kim
Thank you! I wish it was as simple as "put a bottle of X in" wake up in the AM and presto! lol These counts are fluctuating like my weight! LOL! I'm not home tomorrow afternoon so I will do in AM up till 12:30. Then pick back up around 4 or 5:00. Seeing the algae again after vacuuming it out - makes me feel like I'm not making progress. It goes in the same spots too. I think I have only 2 gallons of bleach left. I guess I have to buy some more. Thank you for your encouragement!

Jen did you ever open your filter and peek inside?

Kim
No, I didn't. I can try tomorrow AM. It looks a little cumbersome. Do you have to take the pipes off and then lift the filter? And what should I expect to see inside? Do I hose it all out? Do I buy and add sand or DE? What if the filter is full of this algae? Do I bleach it in the filter? I'm nervous about opening it up but if you could just LMK the answers to the above - I should be ok. I just need to know what to do in my "what if" scenarios.
Thank you!

Shoot me a pic of your equipment. I will know more from looking at it how it is plumbed from seeing it. I will be able to guide you better. Don't stress over it. We can get you though it.

You will not need to add or replace your sand. We are just making sure it works like it should without in problems.
