Impeller Issue: 1.5HP Hayward Self-priming Super Pump (C48L2N134B1)

Hello everyone,

We live in New Jersey. Pool was closed last winter and working fine at the time. Pool was opened yesterday and when we started the pump the impeller would not spin and the pump would overheat and click off.

- Capacitor was tested and was not the problem.
- Checked the impeller and there was some debris. Cleaned that.
- Impeller would not spin so I forced it by hand to spin both ways.
- Put it all back together and the pump kicked on but is now super loud.
- Also, the impeller and rod now spin with little resistance…

Did I break something and can it be easily fixed?

We bought it in October 2017. It's a 1.5HP Hayward Self-priming Super Pump (Model: C48L2N134B1).

You can replace the motor if the rest of the pump is in good condition.

Everything else is in good shape. I saw a video on replacing the bearings... Way out of my skill set.

One more question: Is there a way to tell if a bearing is bad once it is removed? Our current pump has a front and a rear bearing. I am just wondering if there's a way to tell which one is bad. Thanks!

Only by disassembling the motor and examining the bearings.
