FC was 8 when I tested PH.

So we're still losing too much overnight and haven't been able to add more chlorine. Hopefully the CYA will soon kick in!

Well this is odd - last night FC was 8, this morning it's 9. So now it's going up overnight? So weird.

- we're adding chlorine tonight and hopefully he'll move out by tomorrow as we have friends over to swim! 
Only downside is we're running the heater as the temperature dropped a ton with the torrential rain yesterday.

I think it looks pretty good? We just vacuumed today which it needed badly. The problem is that we have some stains and discoloration so it never looks perfect. I would say it's crystal clear but only sparkles when we have the waterfall on.
Have you passed the OCLT?
If not, your are not done with the shocking process. Get your FC up to 13 ppm (for 30 ppm cya from poolcalculator) and keep it at or slightly above that.

No we haven't. I haven't tested the last 2 nights though. Couldn't deal with the rain yesterday!!
I will go out and test again tonight a few hours after we added the chlorine and I'll retest first thing and see how it's looking.

Did the overnight test.
Last night we tested 2 hrs after we added chlorine and it was 8 FC.
This morning we tested and it was 7.
So that's better right? Do we need to keep shocking or are we done?

You are done with the shock process when....
1. Your pool water is sparkling
2. Your CC's are .5ppm or less
3. You can hold your FC overnight without losing more than 1ppm.
Do you pass all three?

Lol! I decided to give him a reprieve.
Actually he's been doing pretty well with it - he did all the vacuuming and back washing and clears the skimmers. I just do the testing so I know where we're at!

Compromise. Nice. Sometimes that is the ultimate win. My wife never touches the pool except to swim in it. I never wash a single dish ever. Whatever combination prevents yelling is the answer.
