See if the crack repair holds or it cracks again.
My question would be why did it crack? Did the canister and the pipe below the crack shift so there is pressure on that area causing the crack?
If the crack does not come back you will be good. If it comes back then replace it which will fix any pressure from the pipe.

You can attempt the repair of the existing canister.
Be sure you leave enough clearance to remove the basket easily.
A new A&A Leaf Vac costs about $300
$1000 to install is highway robbery.
It's probably a 3 hour job at most.
Maybe call around to other pool repair people or check the dost to replace with the local pool guys in your neighborhood.
