Green pool, help!

The CYA test is subjective and can be difficult to read - it's very possible your CYA is a little higher than the 30 you are planning on. It could be 40, for example, at which point 2 - 2.5 is too low. My suspicion is that your FC dipped low enough for your CYA level that it allowed the algae to take a foothold.

If it were iron in the water I'm pretty sure the FC 23 would be leaving it very green/brown and not clear it up, so it sounds like yes, it was just algae.

Once the SLAM is done and the OCLT is passed, I would target about 6-7ppm with my additions and test daily to make sure you're not going below about 4ppm or so, just to be on the safe side. If you are, and OCLT was passed, you might want to increase CYA up a bit to 40 (if not already) or 50 to help with the sun in the summer months.
