Thanks. I just did it. The diluted test showed over 200 cya, perhaps around 200-250 if I had to guess.

In that case it is looking like you need to drain as low as you can. You need to leave a foot of water in the shallow end just in case you have a high water table and refill. To refill quickly you could try using two hoses if you have two outside taps.
Hopefully that will be enough dilution for you so you dont have to do a second drain refill

I think the water table in Tuscon is pretty low. Hopefully someone from there will chime in.

Ok, I now have about 15 inches in the shallow but there is still lots in the deep. Yes, I don't want to cause any damage by draining too much.

Ha! I am stuck in traffic so there's not much else happening. (not driving, btw)....
Couple more questions. I have the pump on during the fill, is that alright?
Also, I added 3 gallons of 13% bleach for the bleach but I am thinking of adding more to really knock this algee out. Will I harm anything by putting more bleach in?

It is fine to have your pump on as long as it is primed. Ok to add bleach up to shock level for your projected cya, [FC/CYA][/FC/CYA].
That the lines are full of water and not sucking a bunch of air through the pump. The skimmers need to be off.
