Cover for new pool

Pool store prices are typically 2X DIY prices and I think that is what you will find with the cover.

NJ is having a mild wet winter and I think you will be fine without a cover this year. You just may have more pool cleanup when you open in the spring without the cover.

I think custom sized covers are a lot more expensive. On my previous pool, it was Grecian shaped with a side stairs. IIRC, the cover cost around $4000. Just about 3 weeks ago, I had a Loop-Loc installed on my new pool. It was a standard size 16x40 cover. It cost me $2500 installed which included the drilling of the concrete for the anchors.
