I would just sit back quietly, offering to be available when they have algae to give advice on how to clear it. If, that is, they are finally ready ro commit to the process.
I would highly recommend printing out the Pool School articles and show them to your parents. I know it's hard giving advice to parents, they don't always want to listen. By perhaps by seeing the actual articles themselves, they might become more receptive. Anyway, good luck
My pools fine now guys, were only using bleach and no the CYA didnt increase i just swam and it felt great! our chlorine now is 13.5 and were leaving it at that till it drops then we now finally agreed on FC of 7

wow...... I wish my pool and I could sit down and agree on a FC level..... unfortunately, pools have a way of doing their own thing... which means either you give them what they need, or they swamp over.
so much misinformation on the OPs part in this thread. Hope all is well with him and his family's pool.....
