Using a check valve close to the injection point is recommended but not required. Without the check valve, a failure of the feed tube inside the peristaltic pump could result in pool water leaking out of the peristaltic pump the entire time the main pool pump is on.

Thanks Jason, but I answered my own question. The pool water has nowhere to go because of the roller assembly.

Also, does anyone know what specific kind of weights Aquaman is talking about and where they are sold?

The weight should have come with your pump. It's called a suction line strainer, part ST138. The clay weight is embedded in it.

The weighted strainer came with it, but I just ran a new line to it and it isn't staying at the bottom of the tank. I guess I will just straighten the hose out first and then put it back in.

I just built an injector system using an LMI pump, photos posted in my recent message thread. I found my pump on ebay for a good price, some ones old on shelf spare never used, but the suction line ceramic weight was missing, along with the supplied tubing, etc. I found the weight online (I think at pumplocker) for $3 plus shipping.
