Hello!
We have bought and above ground salt water intex 12x24. We are so excited and have it set up but a bit confused about what to do after we will fill it up. We love to fill it up and swim for a day over the weekend and then add salt etc but unsure of the steps.
TIA!

Today, order a pool test kit. It will make your life and pool enjoyment 500% better.

Test Kits Compared

The recommendation here is usually the TF-Pro Salt.

Next, fill your pool and add 3ppm worth of liquid chlorine daily until you get your kit. This is a quart of 10% chlorinating liquid from Walmart, Home Depot, etc. in your 8400 gallon pool. See PoolMath.

Next, add 40ppm of granular chlorine stabilizer using the sock method (search on this site). This will help hold the chlorine that you add.

You can add the salt any time. Make sure to stir it up the best you can, but leave your chlorine generator off until it's been mixing for at least 24 hours.

Once you get your kit, check back here for advice on how to switch from liquid chlorine to the SWG.

Have fun. Also, read all the articles in the Pool School section of this site.

Pool Care Basics

Get 30 ppm of granular CYA hanging, carrot on a stick like, in front of a working return. Add FC in target range per the FC/CYA Levels using the 30 CYA while it soaks.

Use muriatic acid or Borax to get the pH in the 7s if it's not already.

Use PoolMath for both.

Post up test results and we'll see about the others. They don't matter for swimming.
