The Perflex does not get backwashed ... so I am confused 
Generally, you ALWAYS have to add DE after you backwash. We recommend 80% of the normal full amount. If you break down the filter for a good cleaning, then you need to add the full amount stated by the manufacturer.

Well I have the Perflex and it does indeed have a backwash hose and shut off, so now I am confused...
I am not too familiar with them. You bump every so often and when the pressure does not drop, then you have to clean it ... Or apparently backwash (I actually though it was just a drain and not a true backwash)
