My freeze guard is coming on when it is supposed to, however, when the water is recirculating in the spa, it gurgles with air bubbles and diatomaceous earth is released into the spa. Any suggestions as to how to fix this problem?

Welcome to TFP!!!The freeze guard and air bubbles and DE all should be totally independent of each other.
Do you see air bubbles / DE when you switch on the spa manually?
Air bubbles would tend to point to a suction side air leak.
DE in the water (are your sure it is DE?) would point to a problem in the filter.
Please provide more information about what you are seeing and when you are seeing it and we will try to get you squared away.
When the pool and the spa are on at the same time it picks up a lot of air and it seems to be putting the diatomaceous earth into the spa from the filter.
