FlexSteel tape / leaking pool heater

I had the freeze guard on my pool fail this winter and as a result I'm getting water leaking out from inside the heater. As a temporary fix, is it possible to seal the leaks with flexsteel tape until a permanent fix can be completed? I've got a Hayward heater for my UG pool.

Depends exactly where the leak is. I assume you will not run the heater.

I think it will be easier to do a bit of PVC cutting and gluing and install a heater bypass.

Not recommended. If the heat exchanger is damaged it will have to be replaced. Which heater do you have?
