Plaster versus vinyl pool care

I will soon be helping someone with a vinyl pool. I'm pretty familiar with caring for my plaster pool..I see that the recommended levels for CH are different. Other than that what else can you tell me that I should know, or can you point me to a link that would explain the differences.

The chemistry is the same. Only difference is that a low CH does not matter for vinyl:

A vinyl pool is just like a plaster pool as far as the levels go except a vinyl pool doesn't need CH. High CH is a problem for all pool surfaces.

You can also set the pool calc for a vinyl pool.

Lots of folks with plaster pools are using the wrong brush. So, fyi:

Use a Nylon brush for vinyl, fiberglass, tile, and plaster that is less than one year. (Plaster includes any exposed aggregate and marcite finish, btw!) Combo brushes are for older plaster. All stainless are for algae (very stubborn green algae and also the ONLY brush for black algae.)

You CAN unscrew the Wall Whale from the nylon brush it comes with and screw it on a combo brush if your plaster is over a year old. Newer plaster is really too soft for anything other than a nylon brush.

I love the wall whale ... but I too have the wrong brush

The nylon one is almost dead, so I will be getting a combo one next.
