Pump output

In researching a pipe leak underground, I would like to disable the bottom drain in my 18x36 inground pool. Not being an hydraulic engineer, it would seem logical that the flow rate should remain the same, with just increased pressure from the two water level skimmers. If I run my Polaris a bit more each day, it should suffice in stirring up the water to let the skimmers take up the slack.

Can anyone tell me if my hypothesis is correct?

Thanks.

closing off the main drain and allowing two skimmers to provide the only source of water for the pump should not be a problem. You may see the slightest drop in pressure because of somewhat less "source" flow but not enough to make too much difference.

I don't know if you polaris is a pressure-side or suction-side cleaner. It's not a deal breaker either way.
