I am a retired Landscape Architect. For the amount of money you are spending, I recommend that you hire an LA to do an overall plan. Pool builders and "landscapers" do not generally have the professional qualifications to design an outdoor environment.

I live in Central California and am in the process of doing a owner builder.... I have to be honest and say that anyone can build a pool with the right subs. We’re 7 days from start and are doing decking this Tuesday. In my little experience the subs prefer owner builders who pay cash.
