    What is acceptable level of evaporation?

    how much water should I loose per day (or week) in North East before thinking about dreaded leaks?

    I'm in CT. Today is 75 F, Humidity is 44%, windy, 9 mph
    Inground vinyl liner 20 by 40 pool in North East
    Hayward 1,5 HP super flow pump
    Sand Filter

    1/4 "/24 h is normal. much above that. suspect a leak

    There is no set answer as evaporation varies A LOT by region and by prevailing weather conditions. If you want to check for a leak, we suggest you perform the standard Bucket Test (see here - Pool School - Leak Detection) to rule out the effects of evaporation.

    What is your water temperature? Is your pool heated?

    My heat transfer model predicts an average water temp of 74F without heat and evaporation of .21"/day. But that increases with higher water temps.
